Pool Play Gm1 - Ambush travelled up I59 and Hwy411 to participate in the Mother's Day Off Tournament in RBC, AL. Donning the City Connect uniforms for Mother's Day, Ambush started at 9am against the Southside Panthers. Asher Martin started on the mound. A few miscues hurt Ambush as we went to the bottom of the frame down 2-0. After tying up the score at 2, the Panthers jumped out to a 6-2 lead going into the bottom of the 3rd. Ambush tallied 2 and had a clean Top of the 4th. The comeback effort fell short after 1 run in the bottom of the 4th, and Ambush lost the game 6-5. After the subpar performance, Coach Chris regrouped the boys for the second game. No effort chain was given.
Pool Play Gm2 - Ambush played the first and last Pool Games of the day, and at 2:15pm, the guys took on the Valley Boys out of Alexandria. Walker Sumerel started on the hill for Ambush. After a three up and three down top half, Ambush came in to bat. Taking Coach Chris' talk to heart, Ambush scored 10 runs in the bottom of the first inning, highlighted by a 2-run double by Davis Fuentes.
The second inning saw Walker give up 1 hit on 1 run and then Ambush scored 2 runs on wild pitches via John Fox Cence and Jack Alston. The third saw the Valley Boys scoreless again and Ambush added one more. Walker Sumerel finished off Alexandria with 2 runs in the Top of the 4th and Ambush took the victory 13-3.
Walker Sumerel earned the Effort Chain with a complete game one-hitter.
By only allowing 9 total runs on the day, Ambush became the highest seeded 1-1 team and earned the #3 seed in the Gold Bracket.
Bracket - Gold Semifinals - Ambush was matched up with cross-town foe, Seventeen Baseball Club, which earned the #2 seed. As the designated away team, Ambush jumped out quick to a 4-0 lead on hits by Davis Fuentes and John Fox Cence. Asher Martin also added an RBI.
Davis Fuentes started on the bump for Ambush and made light work of SBC in the first.
Going into the second, Ambush tallied one more and took a 5-0 lead into the bottom. Davis once again held SBC scoreless, capped by a beautiful diving catch by Hudson Holmes in left field to end the inning!
Ambush tallied 8 more runs in the top of the third with RBI singles by John Fox Cence, Walker Sumerel and Colton Nuss. Asher Martin and Logan Lynn both had 2 RBI doubles.
The third inning was the more of the same as Fuentes shut down SBC again and Ambush came into the Top of the 4th not finished. The 'bush boys tallied a game high 9 runs in the 4th. Some walks, some hit by pitches and some singles were capped by an RBI triple by John Fox Cence and the route was almost complete.
Walker Sumerel relieved Davis Fuentes in the bottom of the 4th inning and after 10 pitches, the game was over. Ambush defeated Seventeen Baseball Club 22-0. Hudson Holmes earn the Effort Chain with multiple hits, RBIs and putouts.
Bracket - Gold Championship - Ambush faced the #4 Alabama Prime in the Championship Game. After allowing four runs in the top, Ambush tied the game with 4 runs in the bottom. Both teams went scoreless in the second inning and a bad frame in the 3rd gave Prime an 11-4 lead. Ambush added one in the bottom to make it 11-5. Three more runs in the 4th followed by 2 by the good guys made the final score 14-7. After the longest day by any team at the park, Ambush ran out of steam and come to rest at a 2nd place finish with the Runner-Up Trophy.
