Ambush started the day off with a 9-5 win over the Alabama Attaboys in the first pool play game. Stellar defense and timely offense lead the charge as it was 8-2 after 4 innings. John Martin Parrish earn the first Effort Chain of the day and also his 3rd HR decal of the season.
Game two was a back and forth tilt with a whirlwind of highs and lows. Ambush jumped out to a big lead only to have the offense shut off for 4 innings. In the bottom of the last inning, Ambush scored 5 runs to tie the Coosa Bandits at 10. state Tournament extra inning rules started the 7th with bases loaded and 1 out. COOSA put three on the board and Ambush only managed 2 for a 13-12 loss. The entire team earned the Effort Chain for their fight and determination, as every single guy had an input in the comeback.
Bracket play started with a rematch against the Alabama Attaboys. Ambush jumped out to an early lead and never looked back; defeating the Attaboys 13-4 in 4 innings. Davis Fuentes played a defense gem of a game at shortstop and also racked up a multi-hit/multi-run game at the plate and on the bases. This won him the Effort Chain for the Quarterfinals.
Next up in the Semifinals, Ambush played the Valley Boys out of Alexandria. In one of the most intense games of the year, Ambush showed the fight and grit their fans have come to know and love. Trailing 2-0 after 3 innings, Ambush tallied 4 runs in the bottom of the 3rd to take a 4-2 lead. In the top of the 5th, the Valley Boys punched two more across to tie it 4-4. Head Coach Chris Cence challenge the boys to show their fight and they came into the bottom of the 6th needing one run for victory. Davis Fuentes led off with a single. Asher Martin then grounded into a fielders choice for one out. John Fox Cence then battle an entire at bat to hit a screamer up the middle. Heads up base-running brought Asher to 3rd for runners on the corners with 1 out. As the opposing team called time to confer with the team; clean-up hitter Jack Alston awaited. In the clutch moment, Jack demolished the second pitch to right-center to bring home Asher for the walk-off win as the team mobbed at home plate. The effort earned Jack the Effort Chain for the Semifinals.
The championship game was just as intense as the entire day. Ambush was down 3-2 after one. The second inning saw an 8-3 Ambush lead dwindle away as Tri-County led 9-8 as both teams scored 6 runs in the 2nd. Tri-County pulled away until the top of the 5th when Ambush made a 5 run rally to tie the game 14-14. An ill-timed error gave Tri-County a 16-14 lead in the bottom of the 5th and Ambush could not answer in the top of the last inning. Even though the boys did not come away with the championship, the valiant effort did not go unnoticed.
