Ambush Earns Runner-Up in First Ever Kid Pitch Tournament

The Ambush families traveled to Hanceville, AL for the USSSA Call Out Roll Out 9u tournament. Coach Chris talked to the team about 9/11 and the importance of that date in American History. Each player received an arm band to wear in remembrance of that day.

Ambush opened the tournament with their first pool play game against Hartselle Speed. In a back and forth tilt, the boys got their bearings after a couple of innings. Asher Martin started for Ambush and did a great job for his two innings. Good at-bats and two closing innings pitched by Jack Alston earned the group a 9-8 win in their first every kid pitch game! Asher Martin and Jack Alston split the Effort Chain for their performance in game one.

The second pool play game started immediately following the win. Walker Sumerel started as pitcher and pitched three innings. Solid at-bats led to Ambush leaving a lot of runners on base but not many scoring. Davis Fuentes relieved Walker and pitched the 4th inning. After a run-tying single, Ambush came to bat in the bottom of the 4th. Trevor Lowe earned a walk, then stole second. Next came third, with a wild throw into leftfield. Trevor dove into home with the winning run as Ambush wins 5-4. Trevor earned the Effort Chain with his performance.

The two wins earned Ambush the #1 seed in bracket play! Ambush played the winner of the 4 vs. 5 game, the Knights. John Fox Cence started the game, going three innings with a few strikeouts. Timely defense with multiple putouts at home kept the game in reach. Davis Fuentes again came in to pitch in the 4th to relieve Cence. In the bottom of the 4th, Parker Dove earned a walk to start off. Trevor Lowe hit a grounder to shortstop. As he hustled down the line, it forced the Knight to rush the throw to first and Dove's heads up base running scored the winning run on the overthrow. Davis Fuentes earned the Effort Chain for his performance on the mound and in the field at shortstop.

John Martin Parrish started the Championship game for Ambush. Two errors in the first inning set the team behind 5-0. The boys fought back to make it, 6-4 in the third, with Parker Dove and Jack Alston throwing an inning a piece to keep it close. The game eventually became out of reach with the boys earning runner-up with the loss.
