Ambush "Belts" Competition to Another Championship Game Appearance

Updated: Mar 19, 2023

The Ambush family traveled to Fultondale, AL for the USSSA Survivor Series tournament. With all eyes upon earning a "Championship Belt'" the boys were ready to #EarnYourStripes.

We started the tournament against the Spartans out of Mountain Brook. Solid at-bats lead to a 7 run 1st ining for our squad. Hudson Holmes started on the mound and pitched two innings. Parker Dove pitched one inning in relief and Jack Alston closed the game out. Ambush won the first game 11-7 and John Martin Parrish earned the Effort Chain for a solid all around performance.

Game 2 was a re-match from the USSSA 8U State Championship Game in June, 2022. Again, Ambush was the away team. The boys jumped out to an early lead and never looked back, taking the commanding lead to a 12-4 victory! Ryker Jones started on the mound and filled up the strike zone. He earned a complete game win in his first ever start!

Ambush's first two wins were good enough to, once again, earn the #1 seed in bracket play!

Ambush awaited the winner of the #4 vs. #5 game. As the #1 seed, Ambush was once again matched up against Tri-County. As the designated home team, Ambush starter Walker Sumerel took the hill. Working fast and filling up the strike zone, Walker got out of the first inning allowing zero runs. The inning ended with a beautiful run-down put out at home plate by Davis Fuentes. Ambush worked great at-bats and worked the bottom half for three runs. Ambush then added 7 more runs after holding TC scoreless again. After a scoreless third inning by Sumerel, Ambush added 5 more runs to enact the 15/3 Mercy Rule to end the game. Walker Sumerel earned the Effort Chain for his complete game, shut-out performance!

The Championship Game was against the Alabaster Blackhawks. Both teams were evenly matched in a back and forth game. Jack Alston started for Ambush and dealt a ton of strikes. Alabaster scored three in the top, with Ambush scoring four in the bottom of the first. Jack went three innings and competed tough against every batter. John Fox Cence pitched the last inning with Davis Fuentes, and Alabaster took the lead back. Ambush, with their never give up attitude, fought back to have the tying run on third base as the last out was made. We are proud of the boys and their effort. They truly encompass our motto of #EarnYourStripes
